New-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class Tests Skills On the Nurburgring Racetrack

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class arrives in 2020, electrified and technically advanced. Meanwhile, thanks to spy photographers we can observe the early prototypes during tests at the Nurburgring.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class debuts next year. The test cars are hitting the Nurburgring in Germany. The new C-Class evolved outside, in particular it has slightly enlarged wheelbase and lowered front end.

The major changes happened under the skin. It is about new hybrid drivetrains and a battery of larger capacity, improved 48V electric architecture, revised chassis, new autonomous driving features.

Mercedes promises the best in class aerodynamics for the next C-Class (0.25 Cd). The model is built on the current MRA platform, but the automaker updated it to better rigidity. The interior resembles that of the new EQ C.

What really deserves attention is a good choice of powertrains the next Mercedes-Benz C-Class utilizes. We expect 4-, 6-, 8-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines in combination with a 48V electric system and integrated starter generator (ISG).

There will be several plug-in hybrid versions in diesel-electric and gasoline-electric configurations to provide up to 50 mi (80.5km) of range. The next Mercedes-Benz C-Class comes to battle the new BMW 3-Series.
