In 2022, a new, second-generation Kia Niro is set to go on sale: this month in the domestic market, and later in other regions, including North America.
The automaker has unveiled the global 2023 Kia Niro on January 17, 2022. Sales begin in January in South Korea, the rest market will join later. The model will be first available as a conventional hybrid, while plug-in hybrid and electric versions are coming after.
A highly-efficient Smartstream 1.6-liter 4-cylinder 105-HP GDI engine of the Niro HEV features improved cooling, friction, and combustion technologies. It works in combination with a 32-kW electric motor and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (6DCT). The vehicle has one drive option – front-wheel-drive. The achieved fuel economy is 20.8 km/L (Korean standard) or 49 mpg. The maximum output is 139 bhp or 141 HP.
Kia designed the new generation of the Niro from the ground up putting it on the third-generation platform. The 2023 model has a larger body and a more spacious cabin that utilizes eco-friendly materials and creates a minimalist avant-garde feel. The trunk space is enlarged by 15 l (0.53 ft3) to 451 l (15.9 ft3).
Modernistic digital displays and interior controls are optimally placed to enhance the user-friendly experience. A high-tech 10.25-inch panoramic HD digital display integrates both the instrument cluster and infotainment features in one streamlined package.
The Niro offers a choice of 9 exterior colors, 6 contrasting colors for the C-Pillars, 3 finishes for the cladding, 74 color combinations for ambient mood lighting.
More information on the new Kia Niro will be available in due course.
