Smartest and Most Capable New Ford Ranger Makes Global Debut

The Blue Oval has unveiled the next-generation Ford Ranger for global markets. The model offers a choice of diesel engines, the purposeful exterior and high-tech interior, suspension and chassis upgrades. It goes into production in 2022.

The new Ford Ranger has debuted today. Ford’s Product Development Center in Australia led the new Ranger project. The automaker conducted more than 5,000 owner interviews and spent much time with customer workshops worldwide to understand customers’ wishes towards the next Ford Ranger.

The exterior features a new grille, signature C‑clamp headlight treatment at the front, bolder wheel arches, matrix LED headlights (for the first time). The taillights’ design matches the signature graphics on the front.

The cabin offers premium soft‑touch materials and more functional space, a prominent 10.1-inch or 12-inch portrait‑style center touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC 4 connectivity and entertainment system.

Zone lighting and some other functions can be controlled via the FordPass app. Ford Power-Up wireless software updates will be accepted thanks to the FordPass Connect modem.

Ford designers created clever storage and useful features for owners, including a big center console bin, ample door pockets, storage bins under and behind the rear seats, an upper glove box.

The vehicle’s upgraded chassis rides on the 50 mm longer wheelbase. A track is 50 mm wider than before.

Ford added an integrated side-step behind rear tires to create better access to the box. Moreover, a wider variety of cargo can fit securely in the load box now. The new pickup offers a new cargo management system with dividers to hold sized items.

Additional ‘goodies’ for users include a new plastic-molded bedliner that helps protect the truck bed and owners’ knees from scratches, extra cargo tie-down points on steel tube rails, durable and flexible load box caps around the box sides and across the tailgate, which hide structural attachment points for accessories.

The tailgate has the functionality to use as a mobile workbench.

As for powertrains for the new Ford Ranger, the company adds a proven turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel. The rest available diesel options are two 2.0-liter in-line 4-cylinder engines: a Single-Turbo in two power levels, and Bi-Turbo, a performance variant.

There is a choice of two four-wheel-drive systems: an electronic shift-on-the-fly system or an advanced full-time four-wheel drive with a set-and-forget mode. A 6-speed manual gearbox is available on the global version. A 10-speed automatic transmission comes as well.

The Ford Ranger offers over 150 factory‑backed accessories for European customers.

Next year, Ford will begin building the next-generation Ranger at its factories in South Africa and Thailand. Other markets will be announced at a later date. The truck should arrive in the United States by 2023.

Order books will open in Europe in late 2022, while customer deliveries start in early 2023.
