Euro NCAP has published the results of the latest crash tests. This time the testees are the new Audi A6, Volkswagen Touareg, Ford Tourneo Connect and the Suzuki Jimny.
The first two achieved a maximum 5 Star rating. The Ford Tourneo Connect gained 4 Starts and the Suzuki Jimny scored 3 Stars.
The Audi A6 (pictured above) and the VW Touareg performed rather well in the assessment of cyclist-detecting AEB (a new Euro NCAP’s requirement).
The updated Ford Tourneo Connect compact van, previously tested in 2013, could satisfy the 2018 requirements and scored a solid 4 Stars rating due to AEB (automatic emergency braking) and lane support systems now available as base.
The Suzuki Jimny achieved a three-star rating thank to a good driver assist kit.
Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP said,
Overall, these latest results demonstrate that… a 5-star rating remains an achievable although challenging objective for the auto industry….It is particularly positive and welcome that manufacturers are performing well in the assessment of vulnerable road user protection systems such as AEB for cyclists…which are the building blocks for potential automation in the future.
