Today, on October 28, 2021, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is making its official global debut. The newcomer sits on a newly developed platform, has a highly rigid body structure, a modernized exterior and a roomy, high-quality interior. It offers new features to improve safety, security, comfort.
The next-generation Outlander utilizes a new design concept – Bold Stride including evolved Dynamic Shield exterior design, offers 10 exterior color choices including Red Diamond, White Diamond, and a new Black Diamond.
In the cabin, there is a horizontally sculpted instrument panel that makes it easy to see the position of the vehicle during the move, soft padding of fine texture, the controls based on the Mitsubishi Touch approach.
The vehicle’s new-generation plug-in hybrid system delivers more road performance with a 40% increase in output of two motors and a 20-kWh drive battery. The all-electric range is raised to 87 km (WLTC mode), while the frequency of charging is reduced. The fuel tank’s capacity is increased too, and this allows expanding the total range when combining electric and hybrid driving.
Other powertrain upgrades include a booster function to bolster driving force and the unification of the rear motor with the control unit to secure enough floor space to enable 7-passenger seating.
In addition, to shut out the noise, the automaker installed the control unit on the outside of the passenger compartment. Also, Mitsubishi added an innovative pedal operation mode that makes it possible to accelerate/decelerate just by controlling the accelerator pedal.
A new brake function of the Super-All Wheel Control system – Active Yaw Control – allows optimal driving force distribution to the front and rear wheels in accordance with road and driving conditions. Torque vectoring is possible by controlling the brakes on the left and right wheels.
7 drive modes are available for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Power, and Eco. For its all-new crossover, the manufacturer applied the evolution of the MI-PILOT7 single-lane driver assistance tech for highways and adapted Mitsubishi Connect for more comfort, safety, and security.
