The carmaker has created its new factory-built Ford Bronco DR (desert racer) for serious off-road competitors. The vehicle pays homage to the Bronco’s overall victory at the 1969 Baja 1000 racing competition.
Ford plans the vehicle as a production model, though initially in a limited run – 50 vehicles at launch in late 2022.
The Ford Bronco DR features a ‘hot’ Ford Performance design and Multimatic suspension tech including positional selective dampers and a safety cage.
Based on a 2022 Bronco four-door model, the DR version got racing hardware upgrades of the chassis and the body. A 5.0-liter V8 Coyote engine powers the Bronco DR delivering more than 400 hp.
The Bronco DR prototype will debut on the race track next year in the livery of Ford Performance in red, white, black and blue honoring the Baja 1000 victory. The vehicle targets entry in the 2022 SCORE Baja 1000.
Sales begin in a year. The starting price will be over $200,000.
