On the eve of New Year, Mitsubishi talked about its premieres at the Tokyo Auto Salon, which opens on January 11, 2019. They will present an updated Delica D:5 minivan, special Street Sport versions of the Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross.
Contrary to expectations, a new-generation Delica will not arrive. Instead we’ll see the revised Mitsubishi Delica D:5 with significant updates in design and minor technical changes. In particular, an 8-speed automatic transmission replaced the 6-speed one, the 2.3-liter diesel engine got an expensive exhaust gas cleaning system.
While the former fourth-generation minivan had nodes and aggregates from the Mitsubishi Pajero off-roader, the current model is based on Outlander’s platform.
This time Mitsubishi decided to make an off-road-like version of the updated minivan with unpainted bumpers and overlays on the sides, bottom protection, tubular thresholds, red mud flaps spirited by race cars of the brand, a roof rack with built-in powerful LED lamp.
The plug-in hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander (upper picture) and Eclipse Cross crossovers will be shown in Tokyo it their Street Sport modifications. They feature painting that imitates titanium gloss, blackened mica-colored rear with a spoiler near the roof area, 20-inch black alloy wheels and yellow accent in the exterior. All this looks quite stylish.
Other Japanese automakers have also prepared new products for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2019. Subaru will present STI versions of the Forester and Impreza without turbo engines.
Honda will showcase a cross-version of the Civic hatchback with no all-wheel drive. Suzuki announced several show cars too, among which there will be at least one unique exhibit – a pickup truck based on the new Jimny.
