Mitsubishi Reveals a U.S. Release Date for the 2023 Outlander PHEV

The next Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will receive a powertrain of a new generation.

Mitsubishi has announced that the new-generation Outlander PHEV will enter the Japanese market in the second half of this fiscal year: from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.

In the USA, the all-new plug-in hybrid 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander will arrive in the second half of the 2022 calendar year.

As Mitsubishi promises, the increased engine power and a larger battery will give the new Outlander PHEV a better ride and more range than the current model’s. However, the automaker has not talked about specific figures yet.

It is worth noting the next Outlander PHEV is based on a newly developed platform. Its integrated components and optimized layout accommodate seven passengers in three rows.

The current Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV starts at $36,695. Unlike the future model, it has five seats. The fuel consumption is 74 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent).

In the United States, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is still a niche model, so its sales are in the hundreds. For example, in the first half of 2021, 638 people became the owners of the crossover. For comparison, the regular Outlander sold 10,675 units over the same period, which is rather far from the leaders in the class.

The best-selling Mitsubishi model in the USA today is the Outlander Sport. Demand for the compact crossover is double that of the Outlander.
