MINI Announced a Base Price For the 2020 Cooper SE Electric Car

The all-new MINI Cooper SE reached U.S. shores in March 2020 priced from $29,900 (a destination charge of $850 excluded).

The final US-price tag of the full-electric 2020 MINI Cooper SE can drop below $20,000 in some locations after the federal tax credit of $7,500 and local incentives. So, the model will be one of the most affordable EVs of the market.

What else, except the price, will the MINI Cooper SE’s owners benefit from?  

Efficiency

The car has zero CO2 emissions. Its combined electricity consumption is 16.8-14.8 kWh per 100 km. The car is particularly economical in its GREEN+ drive mode.

Power

The MINI Cooper SE is powerful enough for a city car. Its motor produces 184 hp (135 kW) and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque.

For comparison: the regular ICE-powered MINI Cooper has 134 hp (99 kW) and 162 lb-ft (220 Nm), the Cooper S – up to 189 hp (139 kW) and 207 lb-ft (281 Nm).

0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration takes 7.3 seconds. The top speed is 93 mph (150 km/h). 

Driving range

A model-specific high-voltage battery uses the latest cell technology delivering gross energy of 32.6 kWh. It comprises 12 modules put in a T-shaped configuration into the floor.

The European WLTP-rated driving range is up to 169 miles (the American EPA’s figure will be near 150 miles).

For comparison: the 2nd-generation Nissan Leaf achieves 150 miles (241 km), the Leaf Plus – over 200 miles (322 km), the Chevrolet Bold – 259 miles (417 km), the long-range Tesla Model 3 – 310 miles (499 km) according to EPA.

Charging

The new MINI Cooper SE can be recharged to 80% at a 50-kW fast-charging station in just 35 minutes (Level 3 Fast Charger) .

To reach 100%, you’ll need 3.5 hours when charged from a wall box. A household 120-volt socket can be used too, though a 240-volt system is preferable (Level 2).

Other advantages

Low positioning of the motor and the battery, along with the lower center of gravity, provide agile handling and easy control at high-speed cornering.

The accelerator response is optimized for efficiency and, together with deactivation of heating or air-conditioning, help gain additional range.
