The upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been spied near Stuttgart. The fifth-generation model is due in 2020. The carmaker will refresh its style, introduce new powertrains and upgrade the chassis.
Spy shots show the early prototypes. The company has redesigned the car to make it a rival for the new BMW 3-Series.
There are several key changes: revised platform, new hybrid drivetrains, improved 48V electric architecture. New functions for autonomous driving can be offered.
Mercedes saved the C-Class’s design lineage in the main, though some details differ: a lower front end, a more strongly angled rear window, a bit longer wheelbase.
We expect the new C-Class will have the best-in-class aerodynamic efficiency (just 0.25).The basis for the new vehicle is a modified MRA platform with new aluminum elements in structure.
The interior features dual-screen infotainment and instrument panel. as well as a conversational gesture control like in the EQ C.
4-, 6- and 8-cylinder petrol and diesel motors combine with a 48V electrical system and integrated starter engine. Mercedes should provide some variants of petrol-electric and diesel-electric drivetrains.
The new C-Class will have a larger-capacity lithium ion battery than that on the current C300e. The electric range is up to 50 miles (80,5 km).
