April for Mercedes is rich in premieres. A fully new model will be presented at the Auto Shanghai 2019 event held on April 16-25. It is a concept of the intriguing 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB.
Spies spotted the design of this compact SUV several times last year. Recently, they came across a prototype with an AMG Line body kit. The latest video shows an average model on the roads near German Stuttgart. Camouflage makes it difficult to see the details, but even what is visible is impressive.
The manufacturer expects the GLB-Class to become a best-seller. It is more practical than the GLA and, by the way, built on the A-Class’s platform and borrows the interior along with the newest MBUX infotainment system from the A-Class. At the same time, the GLB is as spacious as the GLK, it has a potential of a 7-seater, like the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer.
The full information about the range of engines and technologies is still unavailable.
After Shanghai, it is quite possible that the new vehicle will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year, and then we’ll find out the details.
While we can assume that the Mercedes-Benz GLB for Europe will get a diesel 110-hp engine with 1.3- or 1.5-liter displacement, as well as a 2-liter 190-ht unit. The American version is likely to be equipped with a 2.0-liter 220 hp turbo motor as standard.
