A hot modification of the new crossover will be officially presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, 2019.
The latest development of Mercedes engineers in the SUV segment has been of great interest to the motor enthusiasts for many months.
The GLB concept introduction in Shanghai, the first official premiere of the product version and arrival of two hot AMG modifications – all these are links of one chain in the promotion of Mercedes’s fully new model.
Two high-performance options have already been developed for the GLB. An A35 with a 300-horsepower engine will be shown to the public in Frankfurt this fall.
A more powerful A45 will appear, most likely, next spring at the auto show in Geneva.
The GLB 35 is known to use a mild-hybrid technology, and the power of the GLB 45’s 2.0-liter engine will achieve 400 hp. Both crossovers will be equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In addition, a new all-wheel drive system will debut in the GLB 45, developed jointly by AMG and Magna. It uses an electro-hydraulic method of transmitting torque instead of an electromechanical one.
The rear differential has two independent clutches enabling to transfer all the torque to one of the wheels.
The GLB 35 will go on sale at the end of 2019, and the GLB 45 – in late spring or summer 2020.
The standard GLB, when it arrives on the market, will have not only a five-seat, but also a three-row version. We don’t know how much space will be for the legs of the rear passengers, but it is believed the 7-seater will attract more buyers to the model.
