Mazda SUV Lineup Will Have Only All-Wheel Drive From 2022

The whole Mazda SUV lineup for the USA will be equipped with standard all-wheel drive starting from the 2022 model year.

Mazda drops front-wheel drive and switches to the only all-wheel drive for its CX range in America. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 has just received updates for 2022MY. The most significant news about the model is the standard all-wheel drive it got. Other crossovers including the CX-30 and CX-9 should also join the AWD vehicle club after the CX-5.

Previously all-wheel drive was a $1400 option on the CX-5 and CX-30 and cost $1900 extra for the Mazda CX-9. If all these vehicles come only with AWD, their base prices will apparently increase.

Well, expect the 2022 CX models to be more expensive than the current ones.

With that, there is one discrepancy we’ve noticed. Some sources reported that Mazda would launch SUVs on a new, large, rear-wheel-drive architecture, and with a new inline-six engine. Australia Drive in its recent publication supposes the first of those SUVs will be the next-generation 2022 Mazda CX-5 or CX-50.

Perhaps, Mazda has different plans for different markets, otherwise how else to explain such different information?
