The Japanese automaker launches a range of new large crossovers on a new architecture and with inline-six engines.
Not so long ago, some reports from Australia said that Mazda allegedly intended to introduce the next-generation CX-5 crossover on the all-new platform. Soon after, Car and Driver has dispelled these rumors.
Mazda has told the publication that the information about the new architecture and powertrain for the Mazda CX-5 was not correct.
Indeed, the Japanese automaker developed a longitudinal platform and unveiled it back in 2019. Its main feature is the adaptation of rear-wheel drive and six-cylinder engines.
According to Car and Driver, the architecture will underpin Mazda’s new crossover range: CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90. These names are already patented in the USA.
What’s more, Australian website Wheels reports the CX-50 could debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2021. Even if this is not the case, the premieres of new Mazda models will not keep you waiting long. You can imagine how much it cost to develop the new platform.
A question remains: will the company produce new crossovers along with the current ones or instead of them? The Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-30 coexist well on the market so far…
