A new Lotus model codenamed Type 131 is coming to replace the Exige, Evora and Elise cars this year.
It will likely accommodate a hybrid system and be adapted for an everyday use. The new car will ride on a modernized version of the aluminum architecture used by current Lotus vehicles.
The carmaker admits the Type 131 will be the last new model of Lotus with a combustion engine: a new electric sports-car platform is underway.
Moreover, Geely-owned Lotus and Renault’s Alpine are going to become partners to share the EV architecture.
As the forthcoming Lotus Type 131 is positioned as a rival to the fully loaded Porsche 718 Cayman, its price should be adequate – around $75,000.
Expect a production version of the Type 131 bears one of Lotus’s traditional “E” names.
