News has come from Lexus: the company confirms it will expand its line-up of electrified vehicles by adding two new models.
The premium brand plans electrified cars to account for more than half of its global sales by 2025. Lexus has already crossed the mark of 2 million sales of electrified vehicles worldwide.
Two new candidates to enter the brand’s electrification portfolio are a plug-in hybrid version of an existing model, assumedly, of the new-generation NX crossover, and a production version of the 2021 Lexus LF-Z Electrified Concept (in the photo).
The first vehicle shares underpinnings with the Toyota RAV4. It’ll probably inherit the RAV4 PHEV’s powertrain. That powertrain provides a total of 302 bhp and 46 miles of electric-only range.
As for the second newcomer, it will likely share its electric platform and a dual-motor 4WD powertrain with the Toyota bZ4X.
The Lexus LF-Z concept has a 90-kWh battery pack able to charge on a 150-kW fast charger. The car enables a 373-mi driving range. The series version will have the same or similar, we suppose.
The LF-Z unique exterior features a sleek, low-slung silhouette, a ‘spindle’ grille, a wrap-around rear light bar. A new Lexus logo will debut on the car. In addition, the production LF-Z will probably offer Toyota Motor’s innovative ‘steer-by-wire system.
Lexus should introduce its plug-in hybrid this year, while the electric car will follow in 2022.
