Kia Official debuts

Kia Releases Technical Specifications for the 2021 Sorento

Recently Kia has uncovered the 2021 Sorento. Now technical details have become available on the company’s official site in South Korea.

The fourth-generation Kia Sorento is 10 mm (0.4 inches) longer and wider than the outgoing model. It is also taller and 80 kg (176 lb) lighter. The wheelbase becomes 35 mm (1.37 inches) larger.

Thanks to the growth in size, the car provides more space for comfortable accommodation inside. The vehicle is a six-seater, the backseats are adjustable.

The Sorento rides on a newly developed platform enabling smoother driving and sharper handling. Safety is enhanced by 8 airbags (including one for the driver knees). There is a “multiple collision avoidance automatic braking system,” – the first in a Kia or Hyundai vehicle.

Kia offers a good choice of engines for its new Sorento. The Korea-spec cars come with a hybrid powertrain that outputs 227 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque in total. It comprises a 1.6-liter gasoline (petrol) engine delivering 177 hp and 265 Nm (195.5 lb-ft) plus a 59-hp electric motor with 264 Nm (194.7 lb-ft) of torque.

A plug-in hybrid variant will join later this year. Other engines on offer will be turbocharged gasoline and diesel ones, high-performance units inclusive.

A 2.5-liter 277-hp gasoline engine with 421 Nm (310 lb-ft) pairs with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while a 2.2-liter SmartStream diesel engine transfers torque via a DCT. This unit produces 199 hp and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft).

Korean customers will be able to make pre-orders from tomorrow. The European public debut of the 2021 Kia Sorento will take place in early March 2020 at the 90th Geneva International Motor Show.
