Jeep Gladiators and Wranglers are Recalled Due to Clutch Issue

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 2018–2020 Wranglers and 2020 Gladiators to fix a problem with the clutch pressure plate.

The recall involves the vehicles with the manual transmission produced between August 23, 2017 and February 13, 2020. It is about 29,818 Wranglers and 3419 Gladiators.

From April 22, FCA will begin notifying the owners. The American owners themselves can check on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall website, whether their vehicles are included.

NHTSA has published a relevant report. It says the clutch pressure plate could overheat from friction and be fractured causing a transmission case crack, a loss of propulsion or drivability.

Heated “debris” could contact ignition sources and cause a fire. The driver could notice a smell, an abnormal clutch-pedal travel or other signs of failure.

Fortunately, no real accidents have been found out for now. There is only one minor injury related to the issue.
