Infiniti has developed an electric SUV concept to introduce it at the 2019 NAIAS in Detroit. It previews the all-electric lineup of the brand and a new design direction for future models.
Detroit is the place where Infiniti first debuted 30 year ago with the Q45. Last year the brand presented there the Q Inspiration concept sedan (pictured). It is the vehicle with a shorter front end, a smaller engine bay and a larger cabin, designed for autonomous driving.
The SUV concept to premiere next month is a mixture of pure electric and hybrid technologies, on which the carmaker used a little gasoline motor for battery charging. Electric power makes new vehicle proportions possible.
With this concept Infiniti implements its plan to electrify all models from 2021 and applies the new design direction.
The automaker is also developing a new electric platform for future models.
Before the model range electrification, Infiniti is going to expand its newest VC-Turbo variable-compression-ratio gas engine. The Infiniti QX50 sport version will get it.
