The digital world premiere of the 2022 Hyundai Staria took place on April 12, 2021. The model with maximal space utilization and high-level safety represents the brand’s future lineup of Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs).
The ‘inside-out’-designed Staria can be used by businesses and families. In the coming years, Hyundai will be adding various versions of the Staria, namely limousines, ambulances, a camping car, eco-friendly modifications.
The important peculiarity of the Hyundai Staria is the sense of spaciousness it brings. It is inspired by traditional Korean ‘hanok’ architecture which allows passengers to feel as if the outside scenes are an extension of the vehicle interior.
The vehicle is available in two variants – standard Staria and more upscale Staria Premium, in 2- to 11-seat configurations; with 8 exterior colors and a 64-color ambient mood lamp.
The wheelbase is 3,273 mm/128.9 in, overall length is 5,253 mm/206.8 in, width is 1,997 mm/78.6 in, overall height is 1,990 mm/78.35 in.
The cargo space availability varies depending on a seating configuration. The 2- and 3-seaters offer a maximum cargo space of 5,000 liters (176.57 ft3). The cargo space dimensions allow carrying three Euro pallets at once.
The Staria comes with an upgraded diesel 2.2-liter VGT engine and a gasoline Smartstream G6DIII 3.5-liter MPI unit.
The first is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission and delivers a power output of 175 hp and 318 lb-ft of torque.
The second is combined with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The power output is 268 hp and 244.5 lb-ft of torque.
The manufacturer optimized each powertrain option for efficiency, low noise and vibration, better acceleration and shift sensation. Moreover, multiple mechanical tweaks resulted in improved ride comfort and drag coefficient.
Safety and Convenience
The Staria provides the highest level of safety. There is an option to add as many as 6 airbags. All seats come with three-point seat belts and headrests.
Smart features include the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, the world’s first Wireless Module Seat Belt Reminder.
If a passenger attempts to open the power sliding door while a rear-side vehicle is passing by, the Safe Exit Assist function prevents the door from opening. The Rear Occupant Alert feature uses a radar sensor to detect and alert the driver if a rear passenger is left inside after exiting the vehicle.
The model also comes with Hyundai’s smart infotainment system with a wide-angle camera. That camera enables the driver and front passenger to view rear passengers in the back seat on the display screen. A unique speaker function allows all occupants to clearly hear one another.
The 2022 Hyundai Staria will begin going on sale in selected markets in the 2nd second half of this year.
