Car paparazzi have photographed a new Kia’s compact crossover during a marketing photoshoot in the USA. It looks very close to the SP Signature Concept.
The new Kia’s SUV has been officially named the Seltos instead of the Tusker as many thought before. Spies shot the production car in the U.S.
It looks larger than a Soul, but smaller than a Sportage. Its resemblance to the Kia SP Signature Concept revealed earlier this year in Seoul is obvious. A two-tier headlight design, a contrasting black roof and a stumpy silhouette are quite recognizable.
When arrives, the car will meet the whole cohort of rivals on the market from one of the most competitive segments Kia was not present in before: the sibling Hyundai Kona, the Mazda CX-3, Subaru XV, Nissan Qashqai, Honda HR-V.
Given the Seltos dimensions, we expect the engines to be inherited from the Kia Forte and Soul, namely a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 147-hp one delivering 132lb-ft (179Nm) of torque and mated with an CVT, as well as a turbo motor with displacement of 1.6 liters, 201hp and 195lb-ft (264Nm).
The latter will likely work in combination with a dual-clutch transmission. An all-wheel-drive option is possible.
Kia promises to fully unveil the new model in the summer of 2019. So, we’ll know all the details soon.
