Hyundai Kona N Unveiled Today: a ‘True Hot SUV’

Today, on April 27, Hyundai Motor Company has presented the all-new Kona N at Hyundai N Day.

The company has also unveiled its high-performance philosophy, a new brand claim ‘Never just drive’, and highlighted its commitment to sustainable e-performance.

 A 2.0-liter GDI turbo engine powers the Kona N. It pairs an enhanced N variant of the 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. The transmission control unit is calibrated for N and enables exclusive driving features: N Grin Shift (NGS), N Power Shift (NPS), N Track Sense Shift (NTS). The maximum output is 276 hp that reaches 286 hp with the N Grin Shift.

Hyundai says it won’t offer an all-wheel-drive version.

A top speed is 150 mph (240 km/h). 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration takes 5.5 seconds with active Launch Control. Even the base Kona N comes with a Variable Exhaust System, Launch Control, N Grin Control System. The latter offers 5 distinct drive modes – Eco, Normal, Sport, N, Custom.

In addition, the Hyundai Kona features N Corner Carving Differential, an electronic limited-slip differential to control torque distribution. Traction Control handles a variety of terrain and surfaces.

The exterior features N-specific 19-inch lightweight forged wheels with high-performance brakes and tires, N-exclusive Sonic Blue exterior color, other N cues.

Furthermore, Hyundai Motor reinforced the hot SUV’s body for better rigidity and minimization of body roll during maneuvers.


In the cabin, there is a new 10-inch infotainment N mode designed system, as well as a digital cluster with an exclusive racing head-up display (HUD). The vehicle uses various widgets with excellent readability and visibility. They let monitor real-time driving info.

The Kona N has customizable N buttons set to toggle custom modes according to the driver’s preferences. Bluetooth Multi-connection support and an enhanced natural language voice recognition system are available.

The model got a full array of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Among them, there is Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Alert, Safe Exit Warning, and Smart Cruise Control.

The 2022 Hyundai Kona N will go on sale in the USA in the fall of 2021. Expect a starting price of around $35,000.
