The new 2020 Audi A6 allroad has been officially unveiled. One of the highlights of this off-road wagon is an air suspension. It is present in the fourth-generation model. What are its features?
The adaptive air suspension with controlled damping is standard on the Audi A6 allroad quattro. It was specially designed for a station wagon to enhance its off-road capabilities.
The air suspension adjusts the ride height depending on speed and a mode set in the drive selection system. In Auto and Confort modes, the A6 allroad quattro starts moving from a standard ground clearance of 139 mm (5.5 inches).
If an off-road mode is chosen, and the speed does not exceed 21.7 mph (35 km/h), the body lifts by 45 mm (1.8 inches) from the normal position. When you increase the speed to 49.7 mph (80 km/h), the body lifts by 30 mm (1.2 inches).
The air suspension of the fourth-generation A6 allroad is based on a new 48-volt electric system. The starter generator as the central component of the mild-hybrid system (MHEV) recovers up to 8 kW of power during braking and supplies electricity to a separate 10-Ah lithium-ion battery.
The new wagon can work with the engine off at a wide range of speeds; the start-stop mode starts at 13.7 miles per hour (22 km/h).
We can add that the 2020 Audi A6 allroad may well appear in the US car market, where the popularity of the 6th series after a change of generations is growing from month to month. Now only the Audi A4 allroad is offered here.
