All-electric high-performance 2022 Audi e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback will cost from $86K. Power output is up to 496 hp.
These performance electric vehicles are two inches wider than the non-S e-tron models. Both have two independent electric motors on the rear axle and a motor on the front axle that remains off until needed in normal driving.
The power units generate instantaneous 429 hp and 596 lb-ft of torque in normal mode, and 496 hp and 718 lb-ft in boost mode. The regular Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback, by comparison, output 402 horsepower.
When necessary (in difficult conditions of during ‘hot driving’), the front motor provides power, aids traction, and helps the driver with brake-based torque vectoring.
In Dynamic mode, the electric Quattro all-wheel-drive prioritizes the distribution of power to the rear wheels, and the driver can perform controlled drifts.
The trio of motors gets power from a 95-kWh lithium-ion battery pack placed low in the chassis. The driving range with the standard wheel/tire package is 208 miles for e-tron S, and 212 miles for the e-tron Sportback S, according to EPA estimates.
20-inch wheels with all-season tires come standard; 21- or and 22-inch ones with summer tires are optional – available with the Black Optic package.
The list of standard features includes Digital Matrix LED headlights, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit together with a dual-screen MMI display, an updated e-tron route planner.
Toll Module is built into the rearview mirror. It interoperates with all major tolling U.S. agencies. Also, there is in-vehicle LTE-powered Wi-Fi for up to 8 connected devices.
Other ‘goodies’ coming as standard are:
- Topview camera
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Active Lane Assist with Turn Assist
- Audi pre-sense front
- Adaptive Cruise Assist
- Audi phonebox with signal booster
Two trim levels are available for both S models – Premium Plus and Prestige. The 2022 Audi e-tron S costs $85,895 and $90,895, respectively. The prices for the 2022 Audi e-tron S Sportback are $88,495 and $93,495.
The pricing includes a $1,095 destination charge but excludes tax, title, other fees.
