Prototypes of the Honda Civic Type R have been recently spied in Germany.
They give the first glimpse at the next 11th-generation hot hatchback whose Type R-specific wheels, tires, wings leave no doubt that we’re looking at a high-performance modification of the popular model.
Honda revised the optics. Besides, there are significant changes inside – a new steering wheel, a tablet-style infotainment screen.
The 2021 Civic sedan and coupe will possibly arrive this fall. The Honda Civic Type R will be likely launched next year as a 2022 model.
Autocar assumes the hot hatch will get a hybrid powertrain linked in concept to that of the NSX supercar. It is about a 3.5-liter bi-turbo 6-cylinder engine with three electric motors.
It is still unclear whether the Type R will have an all-wheel drive system. Honda designers say the existing front-wheel-drive model is close to the realistic limit in terms of power.
The current 2020 Honda Civic is priced between $19,850-$28,950. The model is ranked near the top of the compact car class, as it offers more versatility than many compact cars.
Regardless of a body style customers select (sedan, hatchback, coupe), they will get an agile fuel-efficient vehicle with an upscale cabin and outstanding combination of quality and value.
