2024 Honda Ridgeline: the Anti-Truck With Motorsport Trophies

Apparently, the 2024 Honda Ridgeline will be an overhaul kicking off the next, third generation. There is no abundance of facts about the upcoming model, but the vehicle’s current achievements are known for certain.

The Honda Ridgeline is an alien in its class of mid-size pickup trucks, and we consider it to be one of the most underrated vehicles nowadays. The automotive press characterized the first-generation Ridgeline as an “odd vehicle” and an “anti-truck” that “scores high on practicality but very low on image”.

The Ridgeline sales have never been particularly high and cannot be compared with the sales of the segment leader – the Toyota Tacoma. It seems Honda did not aim for its single pickup truck to outperform its more traditional competitors.

The company pursued a different goal when it launched the Ridgeline: “to give the 18% of Honda owners who also own pickups a chance to make their garages a Honda-only parking area.”

Current Model

The 2023 Honda Ridgeline’s MSRP starts at $38,800 excluding a $1,345 destination charge, tax, license, registration, and accessories.

It comes with an i-VTM4 AWD system, a zippy 280-hp V6 engine enabling the vehicle to tow up to 5,000 lbs, a scratch-resistant truck bed, an ergonomic intuitive interior with amenities, a dual-action tailgate, and a lockable in-bed trunk. A payload is up to 1,583 lbs, fuel efficiency is 18 city / 24 highway MPG.

The model is packed with modern tech, including a truck-bed audio system and Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System. There is an attractive Black Edition in the Crystal Black Pearl color, in addition to other trims available: Sport, RTL, RTL-E, and accessory packages.

Cons and Pros

Сritics generally agree that the 2023 Honda Ridgeline is a great compact pickup truck you should consider buying. This model is a reasonable choice if you want trucklike capability without the clumsy handling and harsh ride inherent to body-on-frame pickups, in the minds of many people.

On the positive side, the Ridgeline has a polished ride and handling, and an upscale, roomy interior. On the downside, the vehicle has a lofty starting price, an outdated infotainment system, and middling off-road ability.

Besides, Honda’s pickup faces stiff competition from other unibody pickup trucks, such as the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick.

Racing Achievements

In 2023, the Honda Ridgeline Off-Road Race Truck has already had two class wins in the Baja 500 off-road race. The truck has won six Baja 500 class victories in total, recorded three class wins in the Baja 1000, and overall 16 class victories in 36 races. Well done, Ridgeline!

2024 Honda Ridgeline Newcomer

Very opportunely, the next Ridgeline will get off-roading upgrades with the addition of a new Trailsport trim.

They may include enhancements to the AWD system, suspension lift, beefy all-terrain tires, protective skid plates, and tow hooks, as well as trail cameras, hill start assist, hill descent control, and more off-roading modes.

Expect the engine upgrades, a new 10-speed transmission, improvements inside and out, like better quality materials, a more rugged look, etc. Despite rumors, Honda will not apply a hybrid powertrain for the 2024 Ridgeline and Honda Pilot

The new 2024 Honda Ridgeline will be available in the fall of 2023, according to expectations.
