Honda Is Preparing Its Urban Mini Electric Car For Mass Production
Honda has been actively preparing a production version of the Honda Urban EV. The prototypes hidden under disguise caught the eyes of ever-present paparazzi.
The concept car debuted in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The all-electric Urban combines a retro body design, which echoes the original Honda City hatch of the 1980s, and circular elements of lights with high-tech features. The spies even manage to glimpse inside and revealed a digital rearview mirror.
While the concept has a three-door layout, the production car is five-door. Moreover, the catchy multi-spoke wheels seen on the concept aren’t carried over to the trade version.
The powertrain is not revealed, except for the fact that it is battery-electric. Motors, drive, range, torque are unknowns so far.
We expect Honda’s baby EV to officially debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March. Other electrified models should follow based on Honda’s 2030 Vision strategy with focus on the plug-in hybrid technology.
The 2019 Honda Urban will arrive to the European market next year. At the same time, there is no confirmation about its launch in North America.
Honda will also develop pure electric and fuel cell vehicles. In the USA, it already offers PHEV and EV versions of the Honda Clarity sedan.
