High-Performance Chevrolet Tahoe SS Undergoes Road Tests

The new-generation Chevrolet Tahoe will likely add a version for lovers of speed and power.

Spies recently spotted a Chevy Tahoe prototype with components from the Police Pursuit Vehicle package on the streets of Metro Detroit, GM Authority reported.

By some signs, in particular, by the sound of the engine, it can be assumed that this is a high-performance modification of the latest, fifth generation of the popular full-size SUV.

So, if this is the Tahoe SS, expect to find a 6.2-liter eight-cylinder V-engine of LT4 series with a supercharger under its hood. The same engine powers the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing or the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. It is capable of output around 650 horsepower – similar to the rivaling Cadillac Escalade-V.

If the prototype ever turns into a production vehicle, and we suppose it will be so, the Tahoe SS will look more aggressive, feature larger wheels, specific tires, an improved brake system, and a sharper suspension.

The latest-gen Chevrolet Tahoe debuted last year. The 2022 Tahoe will go into production in early October 2021 at General Motors’ Arlington plant in Texas.

The regular Tahoe ranks near the top of the large SUV segment. It is a great choice for family buyers. In addition to powerful engines and excellent predicted reliability rating, the vehicle offers plenty of passenger and cargo space and intuitive infotainment controls. Disadvantages include some hard plastics in the cabin and a rather firm ride.
