The winners of the 2020 Green Car of the Year have become known on November 21, 2019 at paired ceremonies in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas.
Green Car Journal annually honors the best green cars. This-year winners, each in its category, are the Toyota Corolla, the Honda CR-V, the Ram 1500, and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
Contrary to past years, today’s green vehicles focus not only on efficiency and emissions decrease, by on performance and driving fun. These two things are also important for car buyers when they make their choice.
Modern vehicles offer a variety of drivetrains – from conventional gasoline and diesel to hybrid, mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, pure battery electric.
What is significant, this year there is only one all-electric model among 20 finalists.
The jury selected the sedan thanks to some factors – its recent refresh and addition of the first-ever Corolla hybrid package.
The Ram 1500’s new EcoDiesel provides more power and better mileage at 32 mpg. It offers two different e-torque mild hybrid systems.
And, finally, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has become the Green Family Car of the Year winner, which left behind the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Niro and the Nissan Versa.
This is an important win for the developing Mitsubishi brand.
