Kia unveiled the interior and exterior of the new-generation Sportage a month ago. Now its technical details have become known.
The vehicle’s dimensions are 183.5 x 73.4 x 65.3 inches, the wheelbase is 108.4 inches. A European version will have a shorter wheelbase.
The cargo space is 22.5 cubic feet. The all-new Sportage provides 41.3 in legroom for second-row passengers and 39.3 in headroom. The new model offers a choice of alloy wheels – 17-, 19-inch ones of different designs, colors, finishes.
Engines
A turbocharged 1.6-liter TGDI gasoline engine produces 177 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. It pairs either a standard 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
A new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine delivers 183 hp and 308 lb-ft. It works with an upgraded 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Sportage sits on an advanced architecture that allows hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains based on E-Handling tech. Details about these ‘green’ variants will come closer to an on-sale date later this year.
Innovative Features
The fifth-gen Kia Sportage debuts all-new Terrain Mode. It automatically adjusts the vehicle’s settings to realize an optimal drive dynamic for given conditions.
Out of Terrain Mode, the crossover defaults to Drive Mode. The driver can select from Comfort, Eco, Sport, or Smart sub-settings.
An Electric Control Suspension (ECS) is also new for the model. It provides optimum comfort and safety levels thanks to its continuous damping control in real-time.
An electronic 4WD system optimally distributes power between the wheels depending on road conditions and driving situations.
Moreover, the Sportage adapts the newest passive, active, and ADAS safety technologies.
New Versions
The next Kia Sportage will be available in two new versions – the X-Line Sportage and the sporty GT-Line model.
The first stands out with a lugged bumper, side sill, and curved roof rack. A signature sage green color with bold quilting and black metal wood is used in the cabin. The second features unique, vivid body colors, and a contrasting black-and-white interior.
