Genesis commences testing of the upcoming 2022 GV70 crossover on public roads in South Korea. Prior to this, the carmaker has released a teaser photo.
Tests will last a month. Observers can interact with the vehicle, scan a QR code on its wrap, and to “learn more about the camouflage pattern and G-Matrix.”
Though the camouflage hides the crossover, its family affiliation and ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language are obvious.
The teaser photo shows the Genesis’ big “crest” grille with bisected horizontally quad headlights. Dual parallel lines in the lamps are one of the marque’s design themes.
The updated G70 sedan served the basis for the new Genesis GV70. Turbocharged engines – a four-cylinder one as standard and a V6 as an option will likely carry over from the G70 to the GV70.
Expect electrified versions too: a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, and a pure electric variant on an EV platform shared with Hyundai and Kia.
The GV70 and its ‘relative’ – the GV80 should boost sales of the brand, when they arrive in the market later this year (GV80) and in 2021 (GV70).
Currently Genesis has three sedans on sale, but the sedan segment is declining. So, appearance of crossovers in the lineup could help improve the brand position in the market.
