Genesis GV80 Coupe: a Fighter Against BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE

Hyundai Motors readies to put up a fight against luxury coupes from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. This is about a just-revealed all-new Genesis GV80 Coupe – a Korean beauty on wheels.

On the eve of the opening of the 2023 New York International Auto Show, Hyundai Motors presented its new product – the 2023 Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept based on the same-named crossover SUV. The vehicle previews a production model whose launch is planned for next year,

Exterior

The rear-wheel-drive-platformed and long-hooded concept has taken headlight, grille, and dashboard designs from the standard GV80. The car received a body kit, a more aggressive front bumper, a coupe-like sloping roof made of carbon fiber, an elliptical concave ducktail at the rear with an upper rear spoiler and spoiler lip, as well as two-line seamless rear lamps.

Refined proportions are emphasized by an anti-wedge parabolic line and complemented with muscular fenders and blisters.

Genesis made 3 important things when creating its new car:

  • lowered the center of gravity,
  • reduced weight,
  •  reinforced driving dynamics.

The Magma exterior color is inspired by the brand’s Distinctly Korean ethos.

Interior

The cabin of the GV80 Coupe Concept features a three-spoke steering wheel, 4 bucket seats with body-colored carbon fiber backrests, and a G-Matrix strut brace behind.

Interior materials include black Nappa and suede leather with plaid double stitching, orange piping, and carbon fiber weaves on functional surfaces.

The new Genesis GV80 Coupe will be a more affordable alternative to the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe. The car will most likely offer the same engines as the standard GV80: gasoline turbocharged engines with 2.5 liters / 304 hp and 3.5 liters / 380 hp, as well as a 3.0- liter 273-hp Turbodiesel. An electric version, like that of the Genesis GV70, is possible too.
