The Blue Oval has chosen the North American International Auto Show in Detroit to debut the next-generation Ford Mustang.
The 7th-generation Ford Mustang S650 is coming to replace the previous S550 generation. Until now we’ve heard the new Mustang is being tested and, according to speculations, should debut on April 17, 2023.
Recently Ford’s top manager Mike Levine promised to share more details soon, and an insider disclosed that the company selected Detroit to display the new Mustang.
Detroit is the city the iconic pony car is closely associated with, and the next motor show there will take place on September 14-25, 2022. It turns out we may see the premiere of the Ford Mustang S650 earlier than expected.
However, there is no official confirmation from Ford regarding the debut date. So, NAIAS as a place and September 14 as a date for the model unveiling still remain suggestions but not facts.
What the Next Mustang Will Be
The new-gen Ford Mustang arrives as a 2024 model. Its engine lineup will continue to include 5.0-liter V8s, a turbo-four EcoBoost engine, and a supercharged 5.2-liter V8.
Also, hybridization is confirmed, meaning one or more hybrid powertrains will join, as well as a new GT3 version.
A hybrid Mustang will be possibly a very powerful V8-based all-wheel-drive version. A 6-speed manual transmission should be available too.
Cons and Pros
The Ford Mustang’s strengths include several potent powertrains, a corner-carving handling ability, a smooth ride, comfy supportive front seats, a nice look inside and out, and a big trunk by sports car standards.
The weak spots are its undersized rear seats and few standard infotainment features.
With the Mustang’s all-around quality and competitive price tag, this car is one of the best values in the class.
