Ford Fiesta 3-Door Is Dead: Does the Model Prepare to Become History?

The 2022 model year is the final for a three-door Ford Fiesta hatchback: the company ends its production in summer.

To optimize the lineup for Europe and to focus on its most trendy vehicles, the Blue Oval has solved to abandon the sportiest body style of its popular model. The Ford Fiesta 3-Door version, which the car began its existence in the mid-1970s, is discontinued. Ford will cease its manufacture in the summer of 2022.

A hot three-door Fiesta RS is already unavailable for order, and some dealers have limited the acceptance of orders for the regular three-door Fiesta. Meantime, the carmaker will continue offering a five-door variant. Thus, ST-Line, ST (pictured), Active, Titanium, and Trend versions will be available as before.

The Ford Fiesta has been ranked high in the European sales rankings for a long time. This is a global model with its own history of success. Ford produces it in Europe, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, China, India, Thailand and South Africa.

Nevertheless, demand for the Fiesta has declined significantly in the first months of this year. The Ford Puma is now holding the position of the Blue Oval’s European top-seller. This means customers tastes are shifting towards crossovers/SUVs, and fate of such models as the Fiesta may be in jeopardy.

By the way, the Ford Fiesta, up until now, was one of few 3-door vehicles on the market. Its rivals, such as the Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio or the Peugeot 208 have no three-door option, they are available only in 5-door guise.
