In 2018 the Ford F-Series pickup overtook the Toyota Corolla, a long-term leader of the global car market, and became the most popular vehicle in the world.
The Ford F-Series is focused primarily on North America (USA and Canada). 1,076,153 units were sold in 2018, according to JATO Dynamics. The sales volume of the Toyota Corolla, which is the 2nd, amounted to 934,348 cars.
The Honda Civic predictably became the 3rd with the result of 812,767 sales.
The Toyota RAV4 (the most popular crossover in the world in 2018) took the 4th place (807,116 units).
The TOP 10 most popular models of last year also included the Nissan X-Trail, Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Golf (European best-seller), Volkswagen Passat, Chevrolet Silverado, as well as a newcomer to the ‘Premier League’ – the compact Honda HR-V.
86 million new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold worldwide in 2018. Compared with 2017, the global car market fell slightly (-0.5%).
