Ford F-150 Lightning Will Have ‘Younger Brothers’

Apparently, the Ford F-150 Lightning will be eventually joined by the Ranger and Maverick Lightning versions.

The Blue Oval plans to expand its all-electric pickup family with a ‘Lightning’ nameplate. Recently the company has filed trademark applications for the Ranger Lightning and Maverick Lightning with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), according to Carbuzz.

It’s logical to assume that Ford’s all-electric versions of these pickup trucks will bear the Lightning name and adopt the proper nomenclature, just like the company already did with its bestselling F-150.

Deliveries of the full-size Ford F-150 Lightning started in June. The demand for this model is much greater than the company can produce this year: about 200K reservations against 40,000 units Ford can build in 2022, though it will ramp up production to 150,000 units in 2023.

The compact Ford Maverick in a hybrid variant is also popular. Its Lightning-badged battery-electric version will likely arrive in time for the Maverick’s mid-cycle refresh and utilize some electric motor setups met in the Mustang Mach-E models.

The mid-size Ford Ranger in an all-electric guise could come sometime before 2025. Ford promised to offer a hybridized Ranger too.

Both pure electric Maverick and Ranger, whenever they come, have a high chance of being accepted well by customers just like the larger Ford F-150 Lightning.
