Most Ford F-150 Lightning Buyers Come From Other Marques

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning all-electric pickup has gathered more than 150K reservations which predominantly are from people who did not own a Ford vehicle before.

The Blue Oval reports it has secured over 150,000 reservations of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning to date. 75 percent out of this quantity are buyers who came from other brands.

This is good news for Ford, although, in truth, this is not news but a trend for the company, which relates not only to the F-150. 70 percent of the 2021 Ford Bronco order holders are also first-time Ford buyers, according to Ford Authority.

The Ford Bronco Sport, in its turn, attracted 63 percent of purchasers from other brands, mostly from Jeep. The Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 PowerBoost hybrid of 2021MY have significantly contributed to the electrified vehicle lineup. Their rate of drawing customers from other brands is 8 points higher than Blue Oval’s overall conquest rate.

The market launch of the Ford F-150 Lightning is scheduled for the spring of 2022.  Meantime, the automaker started pre-production of the model at its newly-constructed Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan in September 2021. Given the high demand, Ford had to double its planned manufacture at the facility. Nevertheless, the company limits the Ford F-150 Lighting production by a certain quantity in its first model year.
