Ford expands the 2022 Explorer ST lineup with two new versions– a rear-wheel-drive model and an ST-Line series.
The rear-wheel-drive-only variant is designed for on-road driving, while the ST-Line modification focuses on bold styling rather than on performance.
In other words, these two are for people who want to have an Explorer but don’t care too much about its off-road performance.
For adherents of true off-road driving, Ford has the Explorer Timberline in the model lineup for 2022 MY.
The 2022 Ford Explorer ST comes with rear-wheel drive as standard and optional four-wheel drive. Under the hood, there is a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine that makes 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2022 Explorer ST with rear-wheel drive starts at $53,415 including destination – $2000 less than the AWD Explorer ST.
The 2022 Ford Explorer ST-Line is $2,575 cheaper than Explorer Enthusiast ST and $7,570 less than the Explorer ST.
The ST-Line’s exterior is the same as that of a fully equipped Explorer ST. Inside, it has several ST-Line touches (scuff plates, floor mats).
This version brings a number of appearance and technology upgrades, rides on a rear-wheel-drive platform with 4WD capability. A 2.3-liter 300-hp EcoBoost engine and 10-speed AT power the Explorer ST-Line.
Other upgrades for 2022 across the Ford Explorer ST include standard 400-horsepower powertrain and Technology Package for the King Ranch and Platinum models, updated XLT Sport Appearance Package, two new exterior colors, a bench seat option.
The 2022 Ford Explorer models including ST, ST-Line, Timberline will arrive in showrooms later this year.
