Ford Expedition Gets a Mid-Cycle Refresh

The fourth-generation Ford Expedition undergoes a mid-cycle update for the 2022 model year. It is the first refresh of the current-generation Expedition after the carmaker launched it for the 2018 model year.

The 2022 Ford Expedition will have several exterior tweaks, and, in line with other latest Ford vehicles, it will feature technology advancements.

This is about Ford SYNC 4, BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system, over-the-air update capability, a large 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen display already applied for the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning.

By the way, the Expedition shares the Ford T3 Platform with the new 2022 Lincoln Navigator, as well as the assembly line at the Blue Oval’s Kentucky Truck Plant.

What else to expect from the upcoming refreshed Ford Expedition? A hybrid 3.5L PowerBoost V6 powertrain will most likely join later – in 2024, but the Timberline version with off-road enhancements analogous to those of the 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline will be available for the 2022 Expedition.

The full-size Ford Expedition has no shortage of competitors in America: the GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, Nissan Armada, and the Toyota Sequoia are among them. The last should change generation next year and get the significant upgrade that makes the model a stronger rival.

As for the U.S. sales of the Ford Expedition, they are relatively good – 58,320 units within 8 months of 2021. For comparison: the aforementioned Toyota Sequoia boasts only 5,603 sales in the same period. The arrival of the new generation should improve sales of this worthy model.
