A 1.0-liter Ford EcoBoost turbo engine won the “International Engine and Powertrain 2019” award in the category up to 150hp. This is its eleventh victory.
At the “International Engine and Powertrain of the Year” (IEPOTY), the 1.0-liter Ford EcoBoost engine has been awarded in the category up to 150 hp.
This compact motor is installed on a quarter of Ford models sold last year, including the Focus, Fiesta and the Transit Connect.
To improve fuel economy, the company recently equipped the unit with a cylinder shutdown system which is the first in the world for a 3-cylinder engine. Ford refined the EcoBoost technology: cylinder heads, a fuel injection system and a modified exhaust gas monitoring system have been improved.
1.6 million 1.0-liter EcoBoost engines are already used on the roads. This year, new models with more efficient electrified powertrains based on this motor will go on the highways.
It is about the plug-in hybrid versions of the Ford Transit Custom, Tourneo Custom, Focus, Fiesta models which will receive a 48-Volt mild hybrid technology using a belt-driven integrated starter generator.
The Ford EcoBoost 1.0-liter gasoline engine scored 145 points from a jury of 70 judges from 31 countries, 26 points ahead of its nearest rival. It competed with BMW, PSA Group, Toyota / Lexus and Volkswagen.
