The newest purely electric crossover, tentatively called the Ford Mach-E, is capable to compete with the Tesla and Jaguar I-Pace models by its range.
The preliminary name of the new Ford’s electric vehicle is the Mach-E. At least, the automaker has applied for this particular trademark. The new car will go on sale in 2020, and the concept will debut in the current year, according to Autocar.
The Tesla Model Y is believed to be the main rival for the Ford Mach-E, although there is very little information about the American green crossover.
It is known to be the first Ford designed as an electric car from scratch. The brand new platform enables to install both rear and four-wheel drive.
The only technical detail officially announced by Ford is the driving range. The Mach-E can go 370 miles / 596km (WLTP cycle) on a single charge. This figure is 351 miles (565km) for the Tesla Model X and 292 miles (470km) for the Jaguar I-Pace. The Tesla Model Y buyers will also have a promising alternative.
A less expensive version with lower battery capacity and range should arrive too.
