COTY 2022 Named Its Winners: Kia EV6 Conquered the Hearts

The Kia EV6 has become the first Korean vehicle to win COTY – European Car of the Year 2022.

On February 28, 2022, the COTY 2022 award was announced at Geneva Palexpo. The all-new fully electric Kia EV6 won, and this is a historical event for the brand, as no Korean car has ever won this prestigious contest. The model adds this important victory to other awards it had already received.

The shortlist included seven models: six EVs and only one combustion engine car (Peugeot 308). They were selected by a jury of 59 European journalists from 22 countries from 38 eligible vehicles launched last year.

The results are as follows:

  1. Kia EV6 – 279 points
  2. Renault Megane e-Tech Electric – 265 points
  3. Hyundai Ioniq 5 – 261 points
  4. Peugeot 308 – 191 points
  5. Skoda Enyaq iV – 185 points
  6. Ford Mustang Mach-E – 150 points
  7. Cupra Born – 144 points

Why the Kia EV6?

This is really a successful development of Kia Motors. The company’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) high-tech architecture underpins this flagship electric SUV. The platform enables a class-leading, ergonomic interior space. The Kia EV6 offers 328 miles/528 km of driving range, 800-volt ultra-fast charging capabilities – just 18 min to charge from 10% to 80%.

Also, the EV6 is the first global model that incorporates Kia’s new design philosophy ‘Opposites United’:  an inspiration from contrasts, a new visual identity with contrasting combinations of sharp styling elements and sculptural shapes.

The EV6 is the first of seven dedicated electric models Kia will launch by 2026. The U.S. price (MSRP) is between $42,115 and $57,115, including a $1,215 destination charge. The model is eligible for a federal tax credit of $7,500 and, with it, will cost $34,615-$49,615.
