Chevrolet Blazer EV: No Right-Hand Drive Option Confirmed by GM

In a surprising move, General Motors has revealed that the Chevrolet Blazer EV will not be offered in a right-hand-drive (RHD) configuration.

According to insider sources, the Chevy Blazer EV will be exclusively available in left-hand drive (LHD), a deviation from the strategy employed with the Cadillac Lyriq.

This exclusive information, reported by GM Authority, diverges from GM’s recent efforts to expand its presence in overseas markets, particularly in countries with left-hand traffic.

GM has been making strides in catering to RHD markets, evident in the availability of the RHD configuration for the C8 Corvette. However, the decision not to extend this option to the Chevy Blazer EV has raised eyebrows among automotive enthusiasts.

Unlike the Blazer, the Lyriq, built on a platform closely related to the Blazer’s BEV3 architecture, is set to be offered in RHD in the Australian and New Zealand markets. Prototypes of the RHD Lyriq have even been spotted undergoing testing in Michigan.

John Roth, Vice President of Global Cadillac, expressed confidence in the expansion of the brand’s global business. He believes the introduction of a right-hand-drive Lyriq will enable new opportunities in important markets where EV adoption is strong. Plans are in place to introduce RHD Lyriq variants in Japan by 2025, with potential further expansion into markets like Great Britain and Ireland.

Despite GM’s successful ventures into RHD markets with models like the Corvette and the Silverado series, the Blazer EV will remain a left-hand-drive exclusive, at least for the foreseeable future.

The decision is unexpected, especially given General Motors’ overarching plans for global expansion, including a potential return to the European market, as hinted by GM CEO Mary Barra in 2022.

What is clear now is that the right-hand-drive Chevrolet Blazer EV will not be available, and this solution sets the model apart from its Cadillac Lyriq counterpart in terms of international market accessibility.
