The new ZZ632/1000 V8 engine delivers 1004 horsepower.

General Motors’ drive for electrification has not stopped the company from developing traditional combustion engines. For example, Chevrolet Performance has unveiled the largest and most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine ever created by the division.

The 632 cubic inches (10.4 liters) unit, labeled ZZ632/1000, is purposefully designed for drag racing and is not intended for street use. Engineers could squeeze 1004 hp and 876 lb-ft (1188 Nm) of torque out of the 8-cylinder engine.

The most powerful Chevrolet engine to date is the ZZ572/740R Deluxe, which has 727 hp and 690 lb-ft (922 Nm).

The new V8 ZZ632/1000 has a maximum of 7000 rpm, electronic injection, forged aluminum pistons, as well as a forged steel crank and connecting rods.

Chevrolet said that one engine went through 200 simulated runs without issue during development.

Pricing for the most powerful V8 in Chevrolet history has not been announced yet, but we know the ZZ632/1000 will be displayed for the public at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this November. The production will begin in early 2022.
