The preproduction 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 has official debuted on a race track participating in the Best In The Desert event.
The Best In The Desert is the off-road racing series, and these days, on September 23-26, The Desert King Shocks Laughlin Desert Classic event – one of the series – takes place in Laughlin, Nevada. A Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 with a champion Chad Hall behind the wheel has been competing there.
The competition is an opportunity for Chevrolet to test and validate the pickup’s performance in the most extreme conditions.

The prototype ZR2 race truck has already taken part in 10 professional off-road races. It is significantly linked to the production Silverado ZR2, as they share most components of the chassis and powertrain, including a ladder-type frame, a 6.2-liter 420-hp V8 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, a transfer case, differentials and skid plates.
Off-road racing champion Chad Hall:
The tests and refinements made over the past couple of years absolutely prove the adage that racing improves the breed — making the production Silverado ZR2 a strong, capable off-road truck.
The Chevy Silverado got the ZR2 version for the first time. Now the Silverado ZR2 is the automaker’s flagship off-road truck. Its max payload is 1,440 pounds. For comparison: a conventional trailer weighs 8,900 pounds.

The model features Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, uniquely-tuned springs, front and rear e-lockers, specific off-road chassis and suspension calibrations, exclusive skid plate package; 33-inch off-road MT tires, Terrain Mode, unique 18-inch wheels and wheel moldings; repositioned dual exhaust, high-approach steel front bumper, Jet Black/Graystone leather-trimmed interior, others unique details.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 goes on sale in the spring of next year.
