Chevrolet has introduced its first-ever Silverado ZR2 off-road flagship during the opening game of the National Football League (NFL) season.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 debuted on September 9, 2021. The model combines a premium interior with race-proven off-road performance. In a 60-second presentation video, five celebrities and experts use some unique features of this new member of the Chevrolet Trucks’ lineup.
The automaker made suspension and chassis upgrades and enhanced exterior to improve off-road and trailering capabilities. This version’s maximal payload is 1,440 pounds. By comparison, a conventional trailer weighs 8,900 pounds.
Under the hood of the ZR2, there is a standard 6.2-liter 420-hp eight-cylinder engine and 10-speed automatic transmission.
Specific features include Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, front and rear e-lockers, unique tuning of springs, Terrain Mode allowing one-pedal rock crawling, 18-inch wheels, 33-inch off-road MT tires, an exclusive skid plate package, and a high-approach steel front bumper.
In terms of styling, the Chevrolet Silverado boasts a new black hood insert, a unique grille with integrated lighting and a “flow-tie” emblem, ZR2 badges, Jet Black/Graystone leather-trimmed interior.
A ZR2 trim level already became popular on the Chevrolet Colorado, although it is more expensive than other modifications. The Silverado is the brand’s best-seller, and its new ZR2 version has a great chance of success on the market.
To some extent, the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 fills its own niche: it is more hardcore than the Ford F-150 Tremor but not as ‘crazy’ as the TRX or Raptor.
The manufacturer says the new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado will be available to customers in the spring of next year.
