General Motors wanted to offer a new Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 but changed its mind.
The company had plans to launch a fast-going muscle car based on the six-generation Camaro. This version called the Chevy Camaro Z/28 should have received a manual gearbox and, interestingly, – a naturally aspirated, 5.5-liter flat-plane-crankshaft V8 LT6 engine that makes over 600 hp. The same engine powers the forthcoming Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 which is postponed to 2023.
Surely, there would be customers for this hot version, but the Camaro Z/28 won’t come. At least, according to today’s information.
The reason is the regular Chevy Camaro. Buyers have not done justice to the latest 6th-gen Camaro, despite its fine on-track performance.
The model has poor sales: its first-quarter sale results are the worst over the last 10 years. Customers criticize the car for exterior styling, higher prices ($29,741 – $78,017), low visibility in the cabin, subpar interior quality, and claustrophobic rear seats.
