BMW has unveiled the first ever M versions of its X3 and X4 models. They received an upgraded twin-turbo motor delivering about 480 hp.
The BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M are revealed ahead of their official premiere in March 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show.
Both hot crossovers got a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine whose output is 473hp and 441lb-ft (598Nm) of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) takes only 4.2 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 174mph (280 km/h).
If you need even more performance, the Competition package is offered as an option, including the M Sport exhaust system. With this package the top speed will reach 177mph (284 km/h), and the acceleration time reduces by 0.1 sec. With the same torque (598Nm) the engine can develop 503hp.
The vehicles are equipped with a standard adaptive M suspension, M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system, an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and new sport brakes with 395-mm front and 370-mm rear discs.
New sports modifications cannot be called full-fledged offerings without a decent appearance. Thus, the X3 M and X4 M got an aggressive body kit, black ‘nostrils’, aerodynamic housings for exterior mirrors and special 20-inch wheel (21-inch ones on the Competition models).
The interior stands out with sports seats, aluminum and carbon fiber trims, an M steering wheel and a special gear shift lever knob.
The crossovers will be launched to production in April.
