BMW X3 and BMW X4 Got Comprehensive Refresh, On Sale This Fall

The BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and the BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) have received a mid-cycle facelift.

BMW has revamped appearance of the models, improved their equipment and optimized range structure for customers.

Exterior and Interior Changes

Exterior revisions include the new front end with thinner and more angular headlights, a bigger kidney grille, rearranged lower air intakes, more aggressive taillights, enlarged exhaust tips.

There are eleven paint finishes for the BMW X3 and one – Piedmont Red – exclusively for the BMW X4. For the first time, BMW offers a choice of numerous special BMW Individual paint finishes for two models, including matte Frozen Deep Grey.

The M sports package with specific exterior details is available.

The cabin accommodates newly-designed controls and new trim elements. Both X3 and X4 now adopt the center console of the current BMW 4 Series.

The Central Control Display with touch function offers a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches as standard. A 12.3-inch display is an option. BMW has significantly improved standard equipment for the interior including sports seat functionality and upholstery.

BMW has reorganized and considerably expanded the range of modern driver assistance systems for both models. The Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Professional suites are available as options, including improved Active Cruise Control and steering/lane guidance assistant. Parking Assistant Plus now includes a reverse assistant. Another new feature is the optional BMW Drive Recorder, which takes videos around the vehicle.

  • Universal interface My BMW App offers information on the state of the vehicle at all times
  • Enhanced functionality for the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant makes the bond between driver and vehicle more intensive
  • Remote Software Upgrade updates “over-the-air”

Modern Drive Technology

BMW has applied a mild-hybrid technology with a 48‑volt starter generator to all 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder gasoline engines, including the BMW X3 xDrive30e, as well as to high-performance gasoline and diesel models from BMW M GmbH at top of the range.

Seven drive options, three diesel and three gasoline engines are on offer for both X3 and X4 in the domestic market. Power ranges from 135 kW/184 hp to 265 kW/360 hp.

An 8-speed Steptronic transmission and BMW xDrive are standard.

Sales, Prices

The market launch of the models will get underway after the beginning of production at the Spartanburg plant (USA) in August 2021. Pricing starts at $44,695 for the X3 and $52,795 for the X4, including a destination and delivery charge.

Besides, the new BMW X3 and BMW X4 are due to see their world premiere at the Chengdu Motor Show in China (27 August to 5 September). The European premiere will take place at the IAA in Munich (7 to 12 September).
