The year of 2018 showed a clear advantage of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the European limousine segment. The closest competitor, the BMW 7 Series, lags behind.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the most popular limousine not only in Europe but throughout the world. However, the European markets are the largest for the model, and its unconditional leadership in 2018 only proved the trend.
As for the BMW 7 Series, the Bavarian flagship was the second on the continent. Since more than 14,000 people became owners of the S-Class, the 7 Series was bought by less than 10,000.
Thus, the BMW model is losing to Sonderklasse, …so far
The Mercedes S-Class was restyled a year ago. At the same time, the 7-Series (pictured above) has been recently updated and is being brought to the market. A hybrid version may arrive too. It means today’s leadership of the S-Class may decline after a while.
What about the third rival? The Audi A8 in Europe became the fourth in the limousine segment with the result of less than 6,000 sales.
Interestingly, in the luxury large cars segment the balance of power is about the same as in the segment of limousines. That is, the first is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BMW 5-Series is the second, the Audi A6 family comes third.
